| Biography Dave has been active within students’ unions since he set foot in his FE college back in 2000/2001. Actively involved in sports, societies and student media at Goldsmiths College Students’ Union. He was elected to the post of Student Activities and Services officer and from then on to President as the first independent candidate for a long period of time. His work at Goldsmiths helped the Union make significant steps in a period of important change. Addressing significant financial pressures that the union was facing, Dave was part of a team that secured a major new retail space in college and a significant extension to the block grant to improve the representative offer of the union through exciting projects engaging students upon their entry to the institution and upon receipt of their offer to Goldsmiths. He campaigned hard on environmental issues and from the positive steps made in that year the union received the Mayor of Lewisham’s Award for Environmental excellence. 2005/06 also saw Goldsmiths develop a new model of governance for the Union, as the lead officer Dave campaigned hard to ensure students knew why the change was happening and how they benefited from the new model. Happy to receive the role of the art kid on the NEC from Dan Chilcott, Dave will relish the opportunity to bring some creative thinking to the National Union of Students. In what spare time he can find, Dave plays Club hockey, is a rubbish DJ and is a practicing artist showing in London and on occasion abroad.
