The National Convention Against Fees & Cuts is being organised by UCL Students for Free Education, with support from students’ unions across the country. It aims to bring together free education and anti-cuts campaigns from universities and colleges across the UK on February 6th in UCL in London. The NUS LGBT Campaign is supporting the convention.
The convention aims to strengthen and broaden the campaigns against cuts and fees. Like fees, cuts are a national issue. The cuts taking place on each campus are part of a national picture, with 6,000 jobs at 45 campuses under threat.
The convention is open to all and will include sessions on fighting education cuts on campuses, inequality in education (particularly looking at Liberation students), how to work with local trade unions and much more!
What you can do –
1. Find out more by checking out the convention’s blog.
2. Come to the convention on Saturday 6th February! (Facebook event)
3. Pass a motion through your students’ union’s democratic structures in support of the convention, and commit to sending representatives. You may want to consider co-ordinating with nearby unions and putting on a coach to come down to the event.
4. The University and College Union is holding a national lobby of Parliament on January 26th against cuts in Further and Higher Education funding. For further information, click here.
5. If you need more information about the convention, or have any questions, send an email.
