I’ve been lucky enough to be invited to speak at this weekend’s Progressive London conference, titled “A progressive agenda to stop the right in 2010”. The conference will feature debates around the progressive alternatives that will help us restore growth to the economy, protect public services, work together to continue to achieve social progress, protect the planet from climate change and campaign against racism, homophobia and other forms of discrimination.
Proud London – Stop Homophobic Attacks
I will be speaking at this session which will look at stopping the recent rise in homophobic hate crime across the UK which has included physical attacks and murders. It will also discuss the alliances necessary to challenge homophobia in society.
Other speakers that have confirmed:
- Kirsten Hearn - LGBT Consortium Vice-Chair & Independent Member of Met Police Authority
- Pav Akhtar - Chair of Imaan, the Muslim LGBT support group
- Mark Healey - Organiser of Hope & Remembrance Vigil, Trafalgar Square 2009
- Deirdre Costigan - Co-Chair of UNISON LGBT Committee (chair)
The session will take place during the conference and will be a great chance for LGBT students, as well as student activists and leaders, to come together, discuss progressive politics and hear from some great speakers along the way.
