It is events like these that make me feel proud to be a Labour Student, and proud to be part of a wider movement for progressive change in this countr
15/02/2005

The last week has been really hectic and I’m looking immensely forward to getting some sleep. Having spent three days campaigning in the Edinburgh referendum I am utterly delighted with the yes result, and look forward to working with them in the coming months. I’m sure their LGBT society, which I met the other day, will be active and vocal members of the national campaign and a welcome addition growing family of LGBT societies in Scottish institutions.

Straight after the referendum I joined fellow NEC members on the journey to Cardiff for the National Demonstration. The turnout was good and I am hopeful that our activities have made a real impression within the halls of the devolved assembly. This was my first time stewarding such an event, but I thoroughly enjoyed it, even if the weather was very cold. I am amazed at how Cardiff as a city is renewing and regenerating itself and walking down the route of the protest its easy to see just why it is rightly reasserting itself as a city on the international stage!

Friday was the close of motions for National Conference, which presents much excitement at Holloway Road, and I was buzzing around the building trying to get things sorted and fielding calls from various constituent members who had talked to me in the previous weeks. Hopefully we will have some good text and some very vibrant and most importantly useful debates.

The weekend was taken up with Labour Students Council in Hammersmith London. Again, I thoroughly enjoyed myself but was a little worse for wear by the end of the weekend. We held a very successful LGBT caucus meeting, and I was delighted to hear from Barbra Roche MP as she told the conference about why equality issues need to continue to be a priority. It is events like these that make me feel proud to be a Labour Student, and proud to be part of a wider movement for progressive change in this country.
