Don't push me push a push pop!
19/12/2006

Dear officer

There is a need to address the issues of bullying in HE and FE, it is almost a forgotten topic which is very rarely spoken about and we would like to believe is not happening.

Bullying is harmful to all involved, not just the bullied, and can lead to self-doubt, lack of confidence, low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, self-harm and sometimes even suicide.

Many students up and down the country are tolerating being bullied or dropping out of University because they just can’t cope anymore.

We have plenty of legislation that deal with sex, race, disability etc but none which directly deals with people in society being bullied.

NUS is running a bullying campaign for the first time the aim of this campaign is to raise the awareness amongst students and ourselves that this is a major issue that is going on, on our campuses. It will then lead into a campaign for change.

On 21st November NUS launched its bullying survey which aims to collect for the first time data on the extent of bullying in HE and FE. The data collected will be used as part of the campaign and as evidence in the governments select committee reviewing bullying

In order that we get a wide response from all over the country we are asking if you could put this on your website for your students to fill out
