| University of Liverpool's Guild of Students and Liverpool City Councillor Nick Small have successefully proposed that the city council set up a working group to look at the impact the introduction of the new fees regime is having on widening participation and the impact this is likely to have on the local economy. Having been in close contact with their ward councillor throughout the year; A motion was put forward to Liverpool city council for the council to send a letter of support to the 3 students' unions across the city supporting their campaign against the introduction of the £3,000 cap and against the possibility of the government lifting the cap. Nick Small, their ward councillor, proposed an amendment for the city council to set up a working group to look into the impact of the introduction of new fees. A guild officer attended the council meeting and spoke in favour of councillor Small's motion and the motion was passed. If other unions are successful in undertaking similar lobbying activities like this the potential impact could be staggering. Though your group may not meet in the immediate future it could feed in to the review in 2008/09 - it could be your legacy that makes the impact at that time.
