One and half million loaves of bread - £1.6 million. Asking for the cash instead? Priceless

Journalists at the University of Central Lancashire’s (UCLAN) students’ union found a brilliant way to promote the campaign on bursary under-spending.

Pluto, the students’ union’s newspaper, published a list of things £1.6 million – the amount UCLAN had in unclaimed bursary payments – could buy you.

With the money, the newspaper found it could buy 2,025,000 songs on iTunes, 80,040 DVDs or 1,429,000 loaves of brand-name white bread. On a more serious note, the journalists also brought in UCLAN’s director of student affairs and a representative from the University and College Union (UCU) to discuss the issue.
