Million Plus Students' Unions18 November 2008
University of Derby Students' Union
As you may be aware, in recent years "mission groups" of universities have begun to emerge that are groups of similar or "like minded" institutions. They hold a growing significance in strategy at national level and in many individual institutions. A recent session at AMSU Conference recommended that students’ union officers and managers learn about the mission groups in general and aim to work with their institution on the themes arising from their mission group. This would encourage collaboration on student issues at campus level and between similar students’ unions.
For some years students' unions in both the "Russell Group" and "94 Group" of universities have been meeting together to explore matters of common concern, spread best practice and network with like minded individuals. Now NUS and "Million+", of which your institution is a member, would like to invite you to participate in a new unions-led mission group meeting to do the same.
To be held on 18 November 2008 in Derby, the day will give you an opportunity to learn more about Million+, the characteristics of students' unions within the group and the chance to network with other officers and managers who may be facing similar challenges and opportunities to you.
We would like to invite one officer and one senior manager from each union to attend the inaugural meeting, with future meetings' format, subject matter and attendance to be determined on the day.
This is an excellent opportunity - we hope to see you in November.
