Audience: All trustees of a students’ union; Full time, part time or internal.
Aim: This course aims to take students’ union trustees, whether they are sabbaticals, students or externals from simply knowing the bare essentials to being competent in the field of students’ union governance and trusteeship.
Course Objectives:
By the end of the course officers will be able to:
- Have a clear understanding of governance and trustee essentials
- Identify the key legal, financial and strategic responsibilities within their students’ unions and know how to utilise the tools available to them in meeting these responsibilities
- Be aware of the diverse relationships between trustees and staff as both in general and specific to a students’ union
- Actively engage in the complex debate between the need for a democratic system within students’ unions and a fit for purpose governance structure
