Dear sisters,
I am pleased to invite you to the NUS Black Womens' Day which is a great opportunity for us to get together and explore the effects of sexism and racism on black women.
The event, sponsored by the trade union Unison, will enable us to develop strategies to get more active in our unions, break through barriers and create the change that is necessary within NUS and wider society.
Panel discussions at the event include 'double discrimination' and 'the glass ceiling and sticky floor: black women in employment'.
Workshops at the event include - black women's representation in students' unions
- women and faith – organising on campus
- colour consciousness: loving yourself.'
Speakers at the event include representatives from the NUS, TUC and black community organisations.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to vote for the NUS Black Woman of the Year Award that will be presented at the NUS Black Students' Conference in May.
